Offenders, carrying out Community Payback, came to the rescue of scores of elderly residents who were left housebound after the big freeze descended on the county during December 2010.
The writings on the wall for York graffiti artists
Just like most UK cities, York suffers from more than its fair share of graffiti. While providing some momentary fun for those responsible, it blights neighbourhoods, contributes to increased levels of crime and disorder, and costs the City of York Council thousands of pounds each year to remove it.
No butts about it!
Offenders in York teamed up with the City of York Council in July to pick up thousands of discharged cigarette butts from York's historic streets.

Spring clean for York
York and North Yorkshire Probation Trust’s Community Payback team will be joining forces with City of York Council and local residents next month to carry out a city wide spring clean of York.
Community Payback Annual Report 2012
Offenders worked over 125,000 hours on Community Payback projects last year worth over £930,000* of free labour to communities in York and North Yorkshire, according to the Probation Trust’s third Community Payback annual report published today.
