About Us

As a public authority the Probation Service has a duty to consider how it does its business in relation to impact on those with protected characteristics.  The aim is to advance equality of outcomes for everyone.  Currently (2010) these duties relate to Disability, Gender and Race and Ethnicity.
An equality impact assessment is a tool for identifying the potential impact of our policies, services and functions on our service users and staff.
By carrying out an Equality Impact Assessment, we can ensure that the services that we provide fulfil the requirements of anti-discrimination and equalities legislation.
Equality Impact Assesments offer an opportunity for our staff to think carefully about the impact of our work on others.  They can then take action that will promote equality for all.
